Motivated and guided by the noble aim of contributing distinctively to educational issues of national and international importance through discussions, debate and interactions especially in areas of teacher education, teacher training, educational research and consultancy, a group of promising teacher educators willing to work for the cause of the upliftment of the human society through education have established this national-level society of teacher educators with the distinctive goal of promoting and making the discipline of teacher education an innovative experience.
The founder members of this society are the eminent educationists and scholars working in different spheres of teacher education. Some of them include former Ambassadors of Nepal to different countries, former education secretaries, high ranking dignitaries at the Ministry of Education, scholars working in NGOs, INGOs and different universities. This is the only forum of teacher educators in Nepal and it is expected that through this society the teacher educators could enhance their professional development and contribute to the various areas of teacher education in order to give this discipline a lasting impact.
Currently there are 185 founder members and 101 life members. The society has been registered as a national organisation under the National Directive Act - 2018 BS. One of the main objectives of this society is to establish network among the like-minded organisations nationally and internationally. The society has also established professional links with the teacher educators from India, Sri Lanka and other SAARC nations. The society has a plan to initiate a SAARC level teacher educators' forum including teacher education associations of the region and establish professional networking with similar associations beyond the SAARC level as well.
TESON successfully organized three national conferences in various areas of teacher education and collaborated with the national and international organizations such as JICA and the US Embassy in Kathmandu. TESON has recently developed its strategic plan and the organization will diversify its activities in the future exploring the areas of potential collaboration with the development partners.
